DIY Mother's Day Gift Ideas from the Kids
/Looking for ideas for the lovely ladies in your life? Maybe you already found the perfect gift, but still want a little something from the kids. Here are some of my most favourite ideas that will be sure to tug on the heart strings of all mamas....
A Journal:
In our household, we began this from day one with our son. We scrapped the traditional idea of giving greeting cards for every occasion. Do you really want to keep track of and save every card from every birthday, Mother's Day, Christmas, Valentine's Day, etc? An easier, more meaningful option is to have an ongoing journal. For each of these occasions, your little ones will scribble, draw, and write whatever they want in there for you. We bought our journals from Chapters, but you can also find decent options at dollar stores. (Cost = $4 and up)
Framed Artwork:
Have them create one of their proud masterpieces, but this time frame it to make it a little more special and practical. Mom can hang it or put it where she wants it. Also makes for a great decoration for an office or work space! (Cost = under $5)
Painted Canvas:
Super easy, and super affordable. Paint, brushes, and canvases are available at most dollar stores and craft stores. Buy a few colours (acrilic paints work best) and have them do an abstract, or something more creative if they're older. Again, perfect for a work space, or anywhere around the house! (Cost = under $5)
Fresh Picked Flowers:
Head outside and start picking and gathering. Be sure they don't belong to any residences! Tie some ribbon or string around for that special added touch, or stick them in a cave or mason jar! (Cost = free)
Shadow Box:
I see these (and have purchased a few of my own) from Homesense, and they're so great for filling with just about anything. Perfect for children a tad older, have them brainstorm with you about what special things can be placed inside this box for mom. Anything from pictures, to pages or a picture from a favourite book, memorable event tickets, or to dried flowers, the possibilities are quite endless. (Cost = ~$20)
Your kids (and the moms in your life) will thank me later,
Clarissa xo
